Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship for 2027 (Research Students) Embassy Recommendation
For those wishing to enroll at University of Tsukuba, after receiving the Passing Certificate of the First Screening from the Japanese Embassy or Consulate (hereafter referred to “Japanese diplomatic mission”), please apply for the issuance of a Letter of Provisional Acceptance, following the steps below.
1. Find a Prospective Academic Advisor
Referring to the information below, please find an academic advisor you wish to be supervised by. (*Please do not contact your desired academic advisor directly at this stage.)

2.Request for issuance of a Letter of Provisional Acceptance

Please fill out the application form below to submit it.

After submitting the application form, a URL for uploading application documents will be sent to the email address you entered on the form. Please upload the following documents.
*Please combine items (a) and (b)①–⑨ into one single PDF file. (*The Maximum file size for uploads is 30 MB.)
*Please save the filename, according to the instruction in the email.
(a) A copy of the passing certificate of the First Screening (PDF)
(b) A set of copies of the following application documents submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission (*Please prepare the documents that have been stamped by the Japanese diplomatic mission.)
1.Application Form
2.Field of Study and Research Plan
3.Academic transcript for all academic year of university attended (in Japanese or English)
4.Certificate of graduation or degree certificate of the university attended (in Japanese or English)
5.Recommendation letter from the president/dean or the academic advisor at the current or last university attended
6.Medical Certificate
7.Abstracts of theses (* Only if submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission)
8.Certificate of language proficiency (* Only if submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission)
9.Recommendation letter from present employer (* Only if submitted to the Japanese diplomatic mission)
*Upload Deadline: August 25, 2026 (Japan standard time).
(Please note that if application documents are not uploaded by the deadline, the application will not be accepted.)
*The information entered into the application form and the documents uploaded will be shared with the prospective academic advisor via the academic service office. (Sharing information with the academic advisor may take several days. Please submit your application well in advance.)

Please send an email to your desired academic advisor to request provisional acceptance by September 1, 2026 (Japan standard time).
*Please note that any new requests sent to academic advisor on or after September 2 will be considered invalid.

If you cannot find the contact information, please contact the Academic Service office of the respective program.

If you receive approval from your desired academic advisor, the advisor will request the issuance of a Letter of Provisional Acceptance to the Graduate School. After the screening by the Graduate School is completed, a Letter of Provisional Acceptance will be sent to the applicant by the Academic Service Office.
*It may take a month or more from the review to the notification of the results of your Provisional Acceptance application. Please check the submission deadline at the Japanese diplomatic mission and apply early. The results of your application will be notified to the email address you entered on the application form.

University offices are closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and official holidays. Please note that all administrative services, including replying to email inquiries, will be suspended on those days.
*Additionally, in August 2026, the university offices will be closed from Monday 10 to Friday 14.
